I don’t hear that very often these days. “Can you pay in cash?” I was asked – I said no. I know of a business owner who has trouble getting an EFTPOS machine and is really suffering with sales. But anyway, there I was at Queen Victoria Market and said, “No, I have a card”.

We were buying slippers.

I love to get into conversations with people about their belief in business. The shopkeeper who was selling us slippers had time for a chat. She had spent her life as a sole trader, no one had ever let her know that you can have other structures, pay a “bit” of tax and create wealth.

Her tax planning was cash.

Her reason was that she didn’t know anything else. She had always been a sole trader, had saved money, had paid tax as she went and had no idea about the opportunities that she had.

I said that the business could create the income, that could be invested to create assets that give a passive income. I know I didn’t go over her head, and perhaps she will take me up on a free consultation (though she thought some advice would cost a fortune).

That’s the thing.

So many people in business don’t know they are allowed to be wealthy. Create assets and build something. Handling cash sounds great, but all you do is spend it and run the risk of getting caught.

I love it when we get that “got it” moment when a client sees that they can create a bit of wealth as well. A young tradie we have worked with for 18 months, had the penny drop recently and we are looking for him to buy property in 6 months – and such a young guy too.
